Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn (Level 4) - Colors: Kelly Green, Barley, Pale Orchid
  • Size F 3.75 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Black embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • 9 mm safety eyes
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • Thin cardboard
  • Fiberfill

Skills Required:

  • Magic ring
  • Single crochet
  • Invisible decrease
  • Working in back loops and front loops only

Step by step Pattern

Pot:

Round 1: 6 single crochet in a magic ring.

Round 2: Increase in each stitch around (12 stitches).

Round 3: Single crochet 1, increase repeat 6 times (18 stitches).

Round 4: Single crochet 1, increase, single crochet 2, increase repeat 5 times, single crochet 1 (24 stitches).

Round 5: Single crochet 3, increase repeat 6 times (30 stitches).

Round 6: Single crochet 2, increase, single crochet 4, increase repeat 5 times, single crochet 2 (36 stitches).

Round 7: In back loops only, single crochet 5, increase repeat 6 times (42 stitches).

Rounds 8-16: Single crochet 42.

Round 17: In front loops only, single crochet 42.

Round 18: In back loops only, single crochet 42.

Fasten off with an invisible finish.

Attach safety eyes between rounds 12 and 13, and embroider the mouth using black embroidery floss.

Soil:

Round 1: 6 single crochet in a magic ring.

Round 2-7: Continue as per pot pattern increases until you reach 42 stitches. Fasten off with a long tail for sewing.

Hoya Heart:

  • Make two pieces.

Round 1: 6 single crochet in a magic ring.

Round 2: Increase in each stitch around (12 stitches).

Round 3: Single crochet 1, increase repeat 6 times (18 stitches).

Joining Round: Using the second piece without fastening off, start joining the two pieces by single crocheting around the edge of the first piece and then the second piece, forming the heart shape.

Round 5-14: Continue single crocheting and adjusting stitch counts with decreases as described to shape the heart. Finish with an invisible decrease round to taper off the heart.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the heart onto the soil part ensuring it's centered.
  2. Place the combined heart and soil into the pot.
  3. Optionally, add a cardboard cutout to the bottom of the pot for stability.
  4. Stuff the pot firmly with fiber fill as you sew around the top edge to close.
