  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5mm)
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Yarn needle

Instructions:

Body:

  1. Start with the brown yarn and make a magic ring.
  2. Crochet 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring. Close the ring by pulling the yarn tail tight.
  3. Increase round: Crochet 2 sc in each sc around. You will now have 12 sc.
  4. Round 4: Crochet 1 sc in each sc around.
  5. Increase round: Crochet 2 sc in each sc around. You will now have 24 sc.
  6. Continue crocheting rounds, increasing by 12 sc evenly around each round, until the piece measures approximately 3 inches in diameter. This will be the base of the hippo's body.
  7. Once you have reached the desired diameter, crochet 6 rounds without increasing.
  8. Decrease round: Crochet 2 sc together around. You will now have 18 sc.
  9. Continue crocheting rounds, decreasing by 6 sc evenly around each round until you have 6 sc remaining.
  10. Stuff the body firmly with fiberfill.
  11. Crochet 3 sc together to close the hole.

Head:

  1. With the brown yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Crochet 6 sc into the ring. Close the ring by pulling the yarn tail tight.
  3. Increase round: Crochet 2 sc in each sc around. You will now have 12 sc.
  4. Round 4: Crochet 1 sc in each sc around.
  5. Increase round: Crochet 2 sc in each sc around. You will now have 24 sc.
  6. Continue crocheting rounds, increasing by 12 sc evenly around each round, until the piece measures approximately 2 inches in diameter. This will be the head of the hippo.
  7. Once you have reached the desired diameter, crochet 4 rounds without increasing.
  8. Decrease round: Crochet 2 sc together around. You will now have 18 sc.
  9. Continue crocheting rounds, decreasing by 6 sc evenly around each round until you have 6 sc remaining.

Ears:

  1. With the pink yarn, make a magic ring.

  5. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Legs:

  3. Increase round: Crochet 2 sc in each sc around. You will now have 12 sc.
  4. Crochet 4 rounds without increasing.
  5. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the head to the body.
  2. Sew the ears to the top of the head.
  3. Sew the legs to the bottom of the body.
  4. Sew on the safety eyes.

Tips:
