    • Light brown (1 skein)

    • White (scraps)
    • Black (scraps)
    • Yellow (scraps)
  • Polyester stuffing
  • 9mm safety eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Step by step Pattern

Body:

  1. Start with the brown yarn and make a magic ring.
  2. Crochet 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring.
  3. Increase in each stitch around (12 sc).
  4. Continue crocheting around in sc, increasing 6 stitches evenly spaced every other round until you have 36 sc.
  5. Place a marker at the start of the round.
  6. Continue crocheting in sc without increasing until the body measures about 4 inches long.
  7. Start stuffing the body as you crochet.
  8. Decrease by crocheting two sc together at the end of each round.
  9. Continue decreasing until you have only 6 sc remaining.
  10. Stuff the body firmly and close the hole by crocheting the remaining stitches together.

Head:

  1. Attach the brown yarn to the body at the marked spot for the head.
  2. Make 6 sc in a magic ring.
  3. Increase in each stitch around (12 sc).
  4. Continue crocheting in sc, increasing 6 stitches evenly spaced every other round until you have 30 sc.
  5. Place a marker at the start of the round.
  6. Continue crocheting in sc without increasing until the head measures about 3 inches tall.
  7. Start stuffing the head as you crochet.
  8. Decrease by crocheting two sc together at the end of each round.
  9. Continue decreasing until you have only 6 sc remaining.
  10. Stuff the head firmly and close the hole by crocheting the remaining stitches together.

Wings:

  1. Make 2 identical wings by crocheting a chain of 15 sc in light brown yarn.
  2. Turn and sc in each stitch across.
  3. Chain 2 and turn. Sc in each stitch across, decreasing at the beginning and end of the row.
  4. Repeat row 3 until you have 3 sc remaining.
  5. Close the hole by crocheting the remaining stitches together.
  6. Sew the wings to the sides of the body, near the head.

Legs:

  1. Make 4 identical legs by crocheting a chain of 6 sc in light brown yarn.
  2. Turn and sc in each stitch across.
  3. Chain 2 and turn. Sc in each stitch across, increasing at the beginning of each row.
  4. Continue increasing until the leg is the desired length.
  5. Stuff the leg firmly and close the hole by crocheting the remaining stitches together.
  6. Sew the legs to the bottom of the body.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the safety eyes to the face.
  2. Using black embroidery floss, embroider a small beak on the face.
  3. Cut two small triangles from yellow felt and glue them to the face for the eyebrows.
  4. Cut two small circles from white felt and glue them to the face for the pupils of the eyes.
  5. (Optional) Add a few eyelashes using black embroidery floss.
